New Jet Lag Pill May be Available Soon!
When I recently took a trip to London and Scotland this year to attend the Social Enterprise World Forum in September, I found the first day of the trip was completely shot. The direct flight from Raleigh to London was first of all delayed three hours and the flight didn't arrive until 10:00am GMT.
After the long air flight and taxi cab, and checking into the hotel around noon, I was absolutely exhausted and slept a good 5-6 more hours before feeling refreshed enough to function somewhat normally again.
Needless to say, I was thrilled when I read an article on the BBC News Website called "'Time Bending Drug' for Jetlag" where you can simply take a pill and sleep with normal melatonin levels (which peak during deep sleep) so that you feel refreshed when you arrive at your destination. It would be wonderful to have an opportunity to schedule a meeting that afternoon upon arrival adjusting to your normal body clock in the new time zone.
Researchers say the pill won't be ready until next year, and it could add productivity to workers who travel Internationally as well as shift workers.
Do you think it's ethical to provide a pill that alters your acclimation to a new time zone? Why or Why not?
Would you consider taking this medication yourself and why?
